My first interview for the blog! I'm so excited.
Elise Roberts, a TV professional and personal mentor of mine is first up. I met Elise a few years back when she came to work as the Executive Producer at the news station I was working at.
Elise has been a reporter, anchor, and now works in a management role at WAKA in Montgomery, Alabama.
Name: Elise Roberts
Profession: Executive Producer/TV News Anchor
Most rewarding part of your job: Inspiring a new crop of young journalists to be the gatekeepers of tomorrow.
If you could do anything at all today, with money being no object, what would you do?
I would travel the world. I am an avid traveler and I always say my favorite place is anywhere I haven't been. Bali, Bora Bora, Nigeria and Tokyo are on the list.
Someone knocks on your door. Who would you want it to be and why?
Publisher's Clearing House. Otherwise I'm calling the police! lol
If you could get a 'do-over' in life, what would you do differently?
As cliche as it may sound, I wouldn't do anything over. I don't believe we should live with regrets. I'm thankful for every moment both good and bad because I know it's all a part of God's plan for my life.
What is the best advice you've ever been given?
"Attitude first, skills second." That was the message my mentor wrote in my card after I landed my first job in TV news. It goes to show, no matter how pretty you are or how many skills you have, people will remember how you treat them. I was reminded of this early on in my career.
How do you hope your story/life inspires others?
I hope my life shows people (especially young women) to throw out the story book. There is no one path in life. Everyone's story looks different. What's a happy ending for some may look completely different for you. When I leave this earth, I want to be remembered for my tenacity and that I never settled for mediocre. What may work today, may not tomorrow. I wake up every morning with the goal to live MY best life.
What is the best thing that God has revealed to you?
That His faithfulness endures. While friends, loves and even family have wavered, He has never left my side. That's why when I'm happy, stressed, sad or glad, I look to him; for He guides my path. That's why when people ask about my smile or my secret to success, I respond, "There's no secret. Just faith and fortitude."
